Join Jomo Pereira for a Virtual Tour of Our Mitsubishi Electric Robot Demonstration

Don’t worry if you missed our North West Manufacturing events in July. We couldn’t let Mitsubishi take their fantastic robot demonstration away before Jomo Pereira, one of our technical support engineers, recorded a quick virtual tour for you. Check out his video.

The overall theme was using automation to increase productivity in your manufacturing business. So here, Jomo explains how you can do that using a Mitsubishi Cobot, SCARA or Arm Robot, and how integrating the right Sick safety solution will keep your operatives safe - without slowing down production.

Robots are Not Just for Car Plants!

If you think robots are just for large factories and car plants, think again. With a great range of different units available, Mitsubishi Electric has made them accessible to much smaller companies who often have much more to gain from automating part of their production. Take a look at our virtual tour and get in touch to see how we could help you.

Mitsubishi Electric Assista Cobot

A Cobot is the latest innovation in the world of robotics. Designed to work alongside human operators, it looks smooth with no angles or pinch points to cause harm and will automatically stop when it comes into contact with a human or other obstacle.

That means you don't need the same safety equipment around it - but it runs at a much lower speed and has a smaller payload than traditional robots. As Jomo says; 'it can be a real game changer for the right type of application where space is limited'.

Mitsubishi Electric SCARA Robot

A Mitsubishi SCARA Robot is a cost effective solution that fits well in a table top situation, ideal for many applications including Pick and Place or laying a glue path. With a higher speed than a Cobot and a higher payload, it offers a lot of advantages, but does require an appropriate level of safety equipment to keep your operatives safe. In our demo, it uses a Sick Light Curtain.

The robot stops imediately as the operative breaks the light beams, keeping your operatives safe. To ensure that you maximise the productivity of the robot, it restarts automatically, as soon as the operative is clear of the dangerous area. 'It's the best of both worlds really', explains Jomo.

Mitsubishi Electric Arm Robot

Finally, the most recognisable robot in our Mitsubishi Demo, is the Arm Robot. It has the largest payload and the highest speed, but it is also the highest cost option. Again, this requires appropriate safety measures to keep your operatives safe, but as you can see in our demo, that doesn't need to sacrifice your productivity.

Using a Sick Laser Scanner, our demo doesn't require a fixed guarding solution. Operatives can still get access to the robot for loading and unloading without opening gates or pressing buttons that could slow down production. As the operative enters the pre-defined warning zone, the robot will slow down. If the operative enters the danger area, the robot stops completely and automatically re-starts when the operative leaves the area and it is safe to do so.
