Patlite Launch Innovative, Programmable IO-Link Signal Tower at LC Automation
Patlite has launched a brand new signal tower, the LB6-IL and LC Automation is one of the first to hear about it. We had an exclusive visit from Calum O'Connell, UK Manager at Patlite, to introduce the new addition to their already impressive IO-Link family - the LB6; a programmable, multicolour LED, IO-Link signal tower!
What's It Got?
The unit is a completely new design, but is very similar to the LR series, which is already very popular. As you can see from our video, it looks great, with a choice of 21 colours for each of the 20 layers and you can effortlessly divide the lighting pattern into five tiers, setting each tier's colour and flashing patterns to suit your requirements.
Is it Easy to Install?
You can wire the LB6 with a single, four-pin IO-Link cable without any tools. It's also really simple to fix to your machine using a Patlite right angle bracket, or the M30 nut on the bottom. The LB6 automatically reverts back to its factory default settings when a replacement cable or unit is placed in the IO-Link system, which is all down to the technology of IO-Link.
What Can I Do With It?
Well, whatever you need really! Various indications are possible with the unique and easy setup tool along with the IODD files that are downloaded from Patlite's website. The unit also comes with three made settings. These settings are a level meter mode where light rises from the bottom to the top, depending on the distance or the measurement of the water in, say, a tank. There's a simple animation mode which visualises takt time in an automotive plant, for example. If your operator is working on a machine, or inside a car, and they need to see how much time they've got to be working efficiently on the job, then the takt timer function is ideal.
Lastly, there is the simple mode. This allows you to set green all on, amber all on, or red all on. Typically, this would indicate normal operation (green), a setup change (amber) or just a simple stop on the line or the machine (red). There is various animations capability, for example a display such as half and half, middle failure, red to amber, or major failure; all red.
